When Tom meets Alice again, the two share their feelings for each other and they fall in love. Tom hesitates when instructed to burn the werebear alive, causing Gregory to dismiss him while burning Urag himself. En route, Gregory is summoned to a walled city by an inquisitor whose forces have subdued one of Malkin's followers, a werebear named Urag.

She kills Gregory's apprentice, William Bradley, and flees to her dilapidated mountain fortress. The rise of the centennial blood moon allows Malkin to regain much of her power and escape. Several decades later, Gregory now works as a "Spook" – a roving witch hunter. Production begins September 13 in Vancouver, with Legendary Pictures producing.In 1572 the witch Mother Malkin is imprisoned underground by Gregory, the last of a knightly order known as the Falcons, who have long defended mankind against supernatural threats.

This well-crafted novel marks an auspicious start for an exciting and fast series for young teens. The story of Tom’s escape from the reincarnated witch’s hideous revenge is full of horrible details, as Alice helps, and then once again betrays him. This is no polite wicca-type witch, but a snuffling, slime-trailing, cannibalistic creature reminiscent of Tolkien’s nasgils. But when Tom has only learned enough to be able to control their house-boggart, he is tricked by Alice, the young daughter of a witch family, into inadvertently releasing and then killing Mother Malkin, a witch the Spook has imprisoned in a pit. His mother, a magical person herself, approves, and the Spook’s teaching is strict but kind. Twelve-year-old Thomas Ward, as the seventh son of a seventh son, has no inheritance and is bored with farm work, and even though his new job will mean the superstitious villagers will forever shun him, he is eager to go off to adventure with the tall, hooded man he calls the Spook. The film is set during the 1700s and follows Tom Ward, a young boy training to be an exorcist in the 1700's and must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches, and bind boggarts. It was previously reported that Alex Pettyfer ( I Am Number Four) and Jennifer Lawrence ( Winter’s Bone) were up for roles in the film, but neither will be joining. Bridges was cast to the exorcist in the film, Moore will play a character named Mother Malkin, the most sinister of witches who uses blood magic. The film was previously titled The Last Apprentice, which will be based on the book by Joseph Delaney. Julianne Moore has been cast in a new exorcism film called The Seventh Son, along side Jeff Bridges.
